Past Events

MSEAA organised the first in-person networking event since COVID-19. We had seen quite a number of changes during these past couple of years, especially around transition of industries i.e., academia to industry/ civil service, manufacturing to business development, research to entrepreneurship and more.

Through the event, we hoped to help our fellow alumnus chart through these waters by seeking the experiences from the very people who have gone before us. It was largely an informal event held on the 30th July, Saturday from 930am-1130am, which consisted of a short 45mins fireside chat sharing from the speakers followed by Q&A and free-and-easy networking to the end.

MSEAA organised cooking and baking workshops for our MSE alumni and undergraduates as a pilot for new interest groups.

Building an Effective Online Presence is a virtual workshop conducted by Lionel Lim, who is Singapore’s multi-award-winning personal branding speaker cum learning and development consultant. During the session, MSEAA participants gained useful actionable steps to improve their branding via LinkedIn from the virtual workshop and coaching.

Animal Concerns Research and Educations Society (ACRES) is a non-profit organization in Singapore that tackles animal welfare issues in Singapore. They take in animals that are illegally smuggled or obtained in Singapore and provide the appropriate care in an conducive environment. As a non-profit, ACRES relies on donations to run their day-to-day operations of the center. To help support the cause, the V&O team decided to organize a donation drive, calling upon the alumni community for common household items. House visits were made to the donors where the items were collected, consolidated and delivered to the ACRES center.

The Industry Deep Dive series on IT, Consumer Goods and Renewable Energy sectors brought together 5 alumni who have established experience in their professions from different industries to share their thoughts and insights.

MSEAA Blockchain Blockbuster Weekend bought alumni enthusiasts in the blockchain field to share fundamental of blockchain technology as well as use cases in the financial world with MSE students and alumni. One of the use cases of blockchain, which is cryptocurrency (example Bitcoin and Ethereum) have gained significant attention in the past years. Hence, this event was organised and served as an informative platform for learning and knowledge exchange.

The MSEAA "Ask Me Anything" series - “Starting Years” brought together 9 recent alumni graduates (From batch 2019/2020) from different industries to share their experiences starting in the working world. The event was set in a casual fireside style where the speakers took turns to introduce themselves and answer questions put forward by the students. We targeted the event for undergraduates to help them better understand some of the challenges faced when selecting their first job and overcoming issues such as imposter syndrome.
